Rachel Burchell

Therapeutic Approach

 

Rachel’s therapeutic style is warm, empathic and genuine and is guided by the person-centred approach to psychological intervention. She strives to create a safe space to work collaboratively with clients to provide the support needed to create the change they would like to see, and to incorporate a client’s strengths within the therapy process.

 

Rachel utilises a range of evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness and Motivational Interviewing.

Qualifications & Experience

 

Rachel completed a Graduate Diploma in Psychology and then an honours equivalent Graduate Diploma Advanced in Psychology, before going on to complete a Masters in Clinical Psychology. 

 

Rachel is a Member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS), and is registered as a member of the APS Clinical College. She is a fully registered clinical psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulatory Agency (AHPRA). She has experience working in private practice, addictions, community health, student counselling and forensic mental health.

 

Rachel provides therapy to individuals experiencing a wide range of psychological difficulties. These include, but are not limited to:​
 

  • Depression and mood disorders (including bipolar disorder)

  • Anxiety and panic disorders

  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)       

  • Addiction and substance use 

  • Trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

  • Parenting issues

  • Self-esteem and identity

  • Anger management

 

Rachel has completed the Circle of Security Parent facilitator training course and is passionate about attachment-based approaches to parenting. 

 

Rachel transitioned to psychology after a successful corporate career working in Australia, USA and Asia. Her diverse experience informs her practice and supports her to relate to clients from diverse cultural backgrounds and across age-groups.

Medicare rebates may be available with a referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan issued by a GP. Private health rebates may also be available depending on your health insurance policy.
