Fees & Rebates
South Yarra Psychology is a private psychology practice in South Yarra, Melbourne.
You can book an appointment with one of our psychologists with or without a GP referral. A referral is only required if you would like to claim Medicare rebates for eligible psychology sessions.
Appointment fees
Appointment fees vary depending on the psychologist, appointment type and appointment time.
Standard appointment fees currently range from $220 to $310. Medicare rebates range from $98.95 to $145.25 for eligible clients with a valid referral.
Appointments from 4pm onwards and appointments on Saturdays are more expensive.
Fees are due on the day of each appointment.
Medicare rebates
Medicare rebates may be available for eligible clients with a valid referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan.
Under a Mental Health Treatment Plan, individuals who have a Medicare card can claim Medicare rebates for up to 10 individual psychology appointments during each calendar year (between 1 January to 31 December).
Your GP, psychiatrist or paediatrician will usually refer you for six appointments initially, and then a further four appointments after a review.
To claim Medicare rebates, you will need:

a valid referral (with a Mental Health Treatment Plan having been created)

You do not need a GP referral if you are not claiming Medicare rebates.

Private health rebates
Some private health insurance policies include rebates for psychology or counselling psychology services.
Private health rebate amounts vary between insurers and policies. Please contact your private health insurer directly to check whether your policy includes psychology rebates and what rebate amount may apply.
Private health rebates typically do not require a GP referral.
TAC, WorkSafe, ComCare, NDIS & VOCAT
If you have third-party funding for treatment, please contact the practice before booking to confirm whether your funding can be accepted.
Some psychologists at South Yarra Psychology do not accept clients where the practice is required to bill a third-party organisation.
Where third-party funding is accepted, gap fees may apply.
Assessments and reports
South Yarra Psychology is primarily a therapeutic practice.
In some circumstances, a psychologist may provide a formal assessment or report for a current client. Requests for assessments or reports are considered on a case-by-case basis and are not guaranteed.
Where a formal assessment or report is provided, fees are charged in line with the relevant professional work required.
Cancellation Policy
If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please provide more than 48 hours’ notice.
Cancellation fees apply as follows:

0–24 hours’ notice: full appointment fee charged

24–48 hours’ notice: 50% of the appointment fee charged

More than 48 hours’ notice: no cancellation fee
Bulk billing and reduced fees
South Yarra Psychology does not offer bulk billing or reduced appointment fees.
If affordability is a concern, you may wish to speak with your GP about other services or lower-cost referral options.
