Terry is a fully registered psychologist with endorsement by the Australian Health Practitioners Regulatory Agency (AHPRA) as a Clinical Psychologist. He has full membership with the Australian Psychological Society (APS), and is a fellow of the APS college of Clinical Psychologists. Terry is also an approved supervisor with the Psychology Board of Australia.

Therapeutic Approach / Area of Expertise
Terry has 20+ years of clinical experience but feels he is always learning from his clients. He has worked in hospital, University, not-for-profit and private practice settings both in Australia and overseas. He works with individual adults and couples.
​
Terry operates within diversity, trauma-informed and social justice frameworks and is experienced in the following areas: relationship issues, psycho-legal difficulties and transitions, challenges for those who work in the performing arts, complex trauma, anxiety, family challenges, depression, identity struggles, neurodiversity, sexuality, gender, personality disorders, psychosis, men’s issues, self-harm, and substance use / addiction.

Terry has taught in graduate psychology programs at numerous Australian and international Universities. When not at SYP, he co-ordinates a university Masters program and provides clinical supervision to psychology interns and registrars.

Terry’s preference is to draw on these approaches as indicated by client and/or clinical factors, while remaining grounded in psychoanalytic and psychodynamic frameworks.

Terry sees the broad objective of most therapeutic work as providing a forum for his clients to enhance their insight and understanding, and for this to contribute to a more value-consistent and satisfying life. His approach is client-centred and collaborative. His therapeutic process is curious and non-judgemental and utilises rapport, support, validation, pattern recognition, shared problem solving, and challenge to help clients improve their situation, insight, and resilience.
